I want to start by thanking Peter Alliman, who has been a wonderful host for this visit. Yesterday, Peter and I took a drive through the beautiful Cherokee National Forest, and we got to talking about the Tellico saga and we both agreed that while Zyg may have in some respects lost the political fight over Tellico Dam, history will prove him right. And when you see this book, and I strongly urge you to buy several copies, because I get a cut, I think you will see what I mean.

It's often said that history is written by the victor, but I think that this time will be different because Zyg has written the definitive account of what happened in minute detail. He's captured every nuance, every personality, every battle, every victory, every defeat, every error; he's been deadly honest with the facts and with himself. In fact, he's much too hard on himself, and he will go to his grave thinking that with just one more minute on the clock, he could have put the puck in the goal, and I think he may well be right about that.

Truth be told, we are still trying to understand the lessons of Tellico Dam and take something of value from that roller-coaster ride. I remember after the God Squad Committee meeting where the exemption for Tellico Dam was voted down unanimously within about the first, I think, sixty seconds of the meeting.
